First stage of some concept art for a game I’m designing.  It’s really late at night and I’m exhausted, so I’ll post an actual description of the game concept after I’ve slept…

My character, Vedas, has had the same color scheme since his creation, and I thought it was time for a change.  I’m still considering all the different ones I’ve come up with…still haven’t come to a decision, but it feels good to have come up with this at all!

The other day, a friend of mine asked me “what exactly is anime-style?”  I explained that the anime style comes from the style of drawing that has been popularized in Japan.  The more I thought about this question, the more I realized that the matter is much more complex than simply “it came from Japan.”  At the very beginnings of the anime style, we see that western cartoons were in fact a primary inspiration for some of the first Japanese cartoons.  Most of what I have to say on the matter can now be found in textbooks, but hopefully I can make these same points in a smaller space.
